Why did the mud change names

The actual reasons for the name change are simple, however the reasons leading up to it are quite complex and depending on who you talk to the story will vary.

I am going to try and be as brief as possible.

The mud was originally known as 'Red Dragon' and was founded by Darkstaff/Yaynu ( He used 2 names for a little while). During the first few years of the mud Darkstaff was the primary driver of the mud, and was very actively involved with the day to day operations of the mud.

After those first few years however Darkstaff was tied up in real life affairs that kept him from the mud and left the day to day operation of the mud to the rest of the Administration. Red Dragon grew into something over the next 4 years that was very differant from the mud Darkstaff had started.

This spring Darkstaff became a lot more active in the mud and things came to a boiling point in April (If you are interested the details are in the news section in the archive for that time period) due to differences in opinion about the direction the mud should take.

As a result of these problems Darkstaff is no longer a part of this mud. He owned the reddragon.org domain name, and changed that to point to his own copy of the mud so that he could turn that into what he believed Red Dragon should be.

At this point we decided that rather than trying to fight with having 2 muds identically named we would change the name of our mud. We asked players to submit possible names, the admin team then picked the 4 they liked best and the players voted on them.

Obvious by the new name of the mud, 'Islands of Myth' won.
