I've been playing newbie warrior & newbie martial artist a lot recently,
and it really seems like the way they compare at this range is backwards.

Warrior is supposed to be about tanking and martial artist is supposed to
be about melee damage output, yet warrior is given access to more melee
skills (attack, doublehit) and a better attack skill (attack), while
martial artist is given access to a dodge skill (defensive maneuvers) and a
healing skill (meditation) - neither of which there is a need for at newbie
level. This is made even worse by the fact that warrior can take advantage
of weapon specials without nerfing their melee damage while martial artist
can not, which is a point that should be considered as smallish weapons
with damage specials are relatively easy to come by.

The cumulative result is that martial artist is noticeably underpowered at
level 15, leaving newbie MAs with the choice between remaining weak to take
advantage of newbie bonuses like warp and newbie areas, or sacrificing
access to newbie areas and making do with whatever tiny mobs can be found
elsewhere to slowly grind at a more effective level.

To address this situation, I propose the following changes to both classes:

Warrior:
- Reduce training of [doublehit] to 50% at level 15
- Give access to train [dodge] to 50% at level 15, with full training
available between levels 16 and 20

Martial artist:
- Move the skill [power kick] to no higher than level 15
- Give access to train [fists of fury] to 50% at level 15, with full
training available between levels 16 and 20
- Give access to train [off hand attack] to 50% at level 15, with full
training available between levels 16 and 20
- Either reduce training of [defensive maneuvers] to 50% at level 15, or
move it to level 16+
- Move the skill [meditation] to level 16+

This should help balance these two guilds a lot more at newbie level, and
give them an ability set at this range which more accuretely reflects what
they are designed to do.

I second this, love tteh changes valkyrie ias propoising

Ma is by far my worst newbie experience. They are damage dealers and the first 15 levels do not show it well enough imo
